Questions & Responses

Questions are listed as received. Our responses below are the complete, unedited text of what we submitted.

Initial Contact: I’m trying to contact you because I’m putting together a news report today about concerns and questions being raised about Patronscan technology being used at several LGBTQ clubs in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood. Privacy advocates are asking questions about where the data being collected by your digital system is being held and who has access to it.

Our Response: Thank you for reaching out. We always welcome the opportunity to share accurate information about how our service works.

We understand why people have questions about technology and privacy, those are legitimate conversations and ones we take seriously. We have detailed information available at www.patronscan.com/privacy, including clear outlines of what data is collected, how long it is stored, who has access, and how it is protected.

If it’s helpful for your story, we’ve also published our response to recent media coverage in San Francisco on our own channels so that there’s additional context available to anyone who wants it: https://patronscan.com/articles/lets-clear-a-few-things-up-how-patronscan-actually-works/

If you have additional specific questions, please send them over and we’re happy to help.

Fact Check

The resulting article from this inquiry was published on June 27, 2026. The following Fact Check is only relating to statements directly relating to Patronscan, our technology or our operations. We’re not commenting on the broader article, its sources, or unrelated claims.

AS PUBLISHED PATRONSCAN’S CLARIFICATION
“Greer noted that similar privacy concerns surrounding Patronscan have been raised at other major venues, including Madison Square Garden in New York.”

Video Report: “Greer says concerns have also been raised about Patronscan and privacy issues at Madison Square Garden in New York, which is another user of the technology.”

Madison Square Garden is not, and has never been, a client of Patronscan. We have no affiliation with them or any ID verification system they may be using. We contacted NBC to request correction of this statement on June 30, 2026, but received no response.
Video Report: “…going to notice new tech at a few nightclubs in the Castro neighborhood. Facial recognition devices.”

Patronscan does not, and never has, utilized facial recognition in our North American product.

We understand that news reporting is a challenge of gathering and presenting a large amount of information in a short, readable format.
